El Gallito - (Little Chicken) - Photo Shoot

El Gallito did well during his photo shoot.  I am pleased with the way he turned out.  He is much smaller in size than my first chicken creation.  I think he looks better overall. The circles on the body are made from upcycled wool.

Gallito's tail consists of an I-cord joined to create five loops.  The comb was also made from an I-cord.
Gallito's legs were also made from an I-cord.  I did use the help of my crochet hook to create the feet.
Gallito sits well on his own and joined some of his friends and keeps me company in the craft room.  He makes me smile.

Maximiliano the Chicken is Finished

I am proud to introduce Maximiliano my chicken creation who was inspired from the illustration by Russell Ayto. His books are wonderful.  I especially like The Cow That was the Best Moo-ther. This book was written by Andy Cutbill and tells the story about Marjorie the cow, proud momma of Daisy who is determined to enter her in a beauty contest.

Sitting pretty Maximiliano measures almost 8-1/2 inches from bottom to the top of his head.  His round body allows him to sit well.  His long legs allow him numerous positions.  I think he looks cute crossing them.

Maximiliano was knitted using 100% bulky Cascade wool Brand.  The circles on the body are made from wool.  He is the perfect addition for a kitchen guarantee to draw smiles. Dander and odor free too.

Bird Mania

I have enjoyed making birds from the Sugar 'n Cream book, Chicken Kitchen.  This book contains some of the patterns.  I was not able to find a link to the exact book where I got my patterns.

Speckled chicken is meant to be an egg cozy.  This one is sitting on a votive holder.  I modified the chicken legs since I did not like the pattern instructions.
Red hen sitting on a plastic Easter egg I bought at Target.  The wire thingy is a napkin ring.

I modified the pattern and came up with a chic.  It really is an over sized chic.  I also modified chic's and they are made doing slip stitches instead of single crochets.
Further shrinking the pattern and changing the wings produced this  little bird which seems to have an attitude.
This is Owly.  It was a little difficult to sew its button eyes.

The pattern and instructions for this little blue bird are published in the Cut Out and Keep Website.

Hedgy and Minerva

I've named my whimsical chicken Minerva.  Take a look at those feet.  I will definitely make more chickens.  Minerva is an egg cozy but when not working to keep an egg warm, she can just sit on an inverted votive holder.  I really love how the wings turned out. She looks like she wants to fly off the coop....but she can't....

This pattern is available in the Lilly Sugar'n Cream Chicken Kitchen booklet.  I just purchased mine from Michaels Arts & Crafts for $1.99.  Many more cute patterns are included. Michaels also carries the yarn to make this speckled chicken.

Hedgy turned out pretty cute. Thanks to Connie who supplied the yarn for the fur.  Fur Not really sure how it's called, it was made with Sirdar's Foxy in the squirrel colorway.

Hedgy will roll away so to make him sit you have to prop him onto a small dish or cup.  I used a napkin holder. Hedgy is part of the Woodland Animals Collection by Amy Gaines. I love her patterns. She gives excellent details and pattern instructions.
